Located in the heart of Victoria, Fernwood is a neighbourhood with a wonderful sense of character.

Home to many artists and young families, it is primarily a residential neighbourhood, connected by a dynamic community square. 

Fernwood Square is a beautiful, historic location, and a community meeting place that is buzzing almost any day of the week. Fernwood is a community where neighbours know one another, and meet up at one of the many shops or eateries surrounding the square. The historic Belfry Theatre is a Fernwood landmark.

The Fernwood Community Association facilitates land use discussions (between developers, residents, and the City), oversees emergency preparedness and safety issues, operates the two neighbourhood allotment gardens, and provides meeting space in Little Fernwood Hall for various community gatherings including Cafe Sympatico and recovery support groups.

Fernwood is known throughout the city as a particularly warm, creative, and engaged neighbourhood.

The tree-lined streets of Fernwood boast many character and heritage houses. The neighbourhood is also home to Victoria High School, known as Vic High, the oldest public high school west of Winnipeg and north of San Francisco.

The neighbourhood is enlivened by 3 vibrant schools with active extra-curricular programs, community celebrations, and involved Parent Advisory Councils: Victoria High School (the oldest public high school west of Winnipeg and north of San Francisco), Central Middle School, and George Jay Elementary. Several registered preschools and day care programs also nurture young families in the area.
