About Downtown Neighbourhood

Info about downtown victoria (source -

Downtown Victoria hosts not only the world-renowned Inner Harbour, The Fairmont Empress hotel and Legislature Buildings, but also Canada's oldest Chinatown, and a wonderfully charming Old Town district.

Our downtown is without a doubt one of the reasons why Victoria is consistently rated as a premier travel destination across the country, and around the globe. It is picturesque, featuring waterfront paths, charming shops and restaurants, stunning heritage buildings and picture-perfect locations.

Downtown Victoria serves as the employment and entertainment hub for the 360,000 residents of Greater Victoria. It is also home to a growing number of residents, and a community in and of itself.

The plan lays out a vision to encourage and foster the development of an attractive, vibrant, pedestrian-friendly and economically resilient downtown area. Council and staff will look to the 30 year plan as a guide for growth and development for the years ahead.

Each day, thousands of people come to work and play in downtown Victoria and for good reason. Every summer 1,600 signature hanging baskets adorn lamp posts, and visitors enjoy our first class dining and attractions. Each night, downtown Victoria transforms into a vibrant entertainment hub, home to a wonderful blend of arts, culture and entertainment.
