MACKENZIE HEIGHTS VANCOUVER WEST, BC

Mackenzie Heights is a small tree-lined neighbourhood on the City of Vancouver's west side. Canadian Pacific Railway originally owned the land, but eventually the head of the railway decided to give the parcel of land to his son-in-law, Jack Wood.

Wood developed several Mackenzie Heights homes inspired by California's mission-style houses. After he offered one of his Mackenzie Heights houses -- which looked like tiny castles -- to a local teacher for a year for free, the area became known as "the neighbourhood where teachers live."

MACKENZIE HEIGHTS:

MacKenzie Heights is a hidden gem of Vancouver’s Westside. It was originally CPR land and many years ago the head of the CPR Railways gave his son in- law, Jack Wood, a section of land which is now Mackenzie Heights. Jack Wood built a few houses, inspired by the mission style homes of California. This particular home is one such house and rumour has it that, "when he built this home he made a deal with a teacher that he could have it for free if he promised to live in it for a year. Soon the area of Mackenzie Heights became known as the neighbourhood where teachers resided. Because it is close to schools, parks and the beach, it is an area which is always in high demand, especially by, "builders, first time home buyers and off shore money. (source: theglobeandmail.com)
