Home to 6,000 residents, Burnside Gorge is a neighborhood of varied uses.

This neighborhood is home to the Cecilia Ravine Sports Court and Bike Skills Park, Point Ellice House Museum, the Selkirk Trestle and Selkirk Waterway development. The Gorge Rowing and Paddling Club is located along the Selkirk Waterway.

Burnside Gorge also has much of the City's industrial and commercial property with warehouse and distribution centers, car dealerships, a regional shopping center, hotels and motels. The City's Public Works yard and the BC Transit transfer station are also located here.

The residents of Burnside Gorge are served by the Burnside Gorge Community Association, housed in the Burnside Gorge Community Centre.

Burnside Gorge is located immediately north of downtown - a gateway to Victoria, traversed by a number of major traffic corridors.

The neighbourhood is comprised of four sub-areas:

• Gorge Sub-area: The largely residential neighbourhood west of Cecelia Ravine, characterized by primarily ground-oriented housing with multi-unit housing along Burnside Corridor, and a mix of multi-unit housing and tourist accommodations along Gorge Road, the former Island Highway.
• Selkirk and cecelia village: A mixed use area including Selkirk Urban Village and the residential and employment areas around Cecelia and Jutland Roads.
• Rock bay: A largely industrial area spanning from  the downtown to Selkirk and Cecelia Village. This area is the City’s primary industrial land area.
• Douglas corridor: A mixed employment area along Douglas Street, stretching east to Blanshard Street.
